Week 2
Concept of
Educational Technology in EFL Classroom
From time to time, technology
has been grown. Technology assists human’s work including in education. Educational
technology is field of study or practice that facilitates learning and improves
performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological
processes and resources. As a 21st century teacher, we should use
educational technology as maximum and optimum as possible to make teaching
learning process more effective and communicative. Nonetheless, there is
misconception about educational technology toward teachers recently. Some teacher
think that due to growth of technology, they can let students free to seek
information regarding the material that learned like saying “just search on
google” though the curriculum is kurtilas or k13 we shouldn’t do that or make
that happens. With educational technology, the teachers should seek new or
effective ways of implementing teaching learning process. I hope we can
implement the educational technology well. amen.
Thank you.
Week 3
MALL AND CALL
Since we are
digitalized generation, actually we recognize and use CALL, MALL, and LMS in
daily life but sometimes we don’t realize it.
Computer Assisted
Language Learning (CALL) is defined as the search for and study of applications
of the computer in language teaching and learning. (Levy: 1997)
Computers used for
language learning since 1960’s using some approaches. Computers have important
role in teaching learning language since the computer had been programmed by
experts that has utility in assisting in the classroom.
MALL is usually known
as portable device to learn language using content or interaction affordance.
MALL has been used since all of people own mobile device.
LMS is software system
designed to manage and administer learning progress and to connect between
learning contents and learners that usually used by higher education recently.
I think that we should
be literate in technology and capable to implement in teaching learning so
there is no gap between teacher’s ideas and students’ about learning. Even, we
should use technology consistently to facilitate students in teaching learning
to better education. It’s because it will modify student’s learning path that
enlightens value of long-life education in dynamic world these days.
Week 4
Impacts of Educational Technologies
We are from group 3;
we’re going to share what we have discussed in last meeting based on journals
that Mrs. Eva had given. Using computer on English Language Teaching
performance for secondary school in Sudan is necessary to be applied in
teaching learning process since it’s effective to enhance the language skills. However,
it’s contradictive with the real condition of Sudanese Secondary School. Most of
English Teachers still use traditional method based on their own experience
that they had and they are not sufficiently trained and skilled in using
computer technology. Beside, those schools can’t access computer technology due
to the minimum of government’s contribution in education.
Week 5
Technology
for Teaching Vocabulary
In last meeting, group
one presented about ACO and demonstrated the application. We applied ACO in the
classroom but unfortunately, only some people could do it since the internet
connection was bad. We discussed the application regarding the strengths and weaknesses.
We conveyed our thought about the application that leads argument a little bit.
I think that we should consider the strengths and n weaknesses of application
that chosen. Moreover, we should consider the appropriateness of
teaching-learning which is suitable with the student’s age and especially doesn’t
deviate from Indonesia’s culture. So we can implement teaching-learning with
application to the optimum and to the maximum.

Week 7
Technology for Teaching Grammar
I didn’t
make reflection because I forgot at the time. I’m really sorry.
Week 9
Technology for Teaching Listening
Last
meeting, Group Five presented website, Britih Council for English Teens for
Teaching Listening. We can access on PC or mobile phone using internet
connection. The website is good. It provides materials based on level that wil
be chosen. We can listen to audio whether online or offline that has been
downloaded. The materials that provided on website are interesting with some
varriative topics and related to everyday activity. Group Five said that if the
students can’t catch the audio, there is transcription that will help. I think
that the website can be good in teaching listening just in case: first, the
students are already familiar with the topics in other words, teachers should
know which material or topic is suitable or related with background knowledge
of students. Second, the students must used to listen British accent. Third,
teacher should ensure that students know the vocabulary regarding the topic
which discussed. Last, teachers should give feedback after listening section. For
instance, correcting the answer with transcription as verification or with
other ways, or complimenting students if students do good use in listening. However,
I’m still confused about illustration or representation of how to teach
listening since Mrs. Eva said that Group Five not teaching listening but
testing listening. It is because as far as I know, most of teachers teach
listening always involving this cycle: listening audio, answering the question,
checking the answer, listening again, so on and on. I think that’s all for my
reflection. Thank you J

Technology for Teaching Speaking

Week 11
Technology for Teaching Reading
Last week, Group Four
presented Reading Comp. Pre-Gre Test application to teach reading. The application
is good since it provides varied materials, and there is practice feature
related to the passage that read. However, I think that it’s not suitable for
senior high school students since the vocabulary in the content is rather
difficult for their level. Also, the length of passage is quite long that makes
it bored. Moreover, though the duration time can assist to measure speed of
reading, it may distract students that lead to lack of concentration. It’s like
they need to read as fast as possible and it makes them forget to remember the
content. All in all, teaching reading will going well, it depends on students’
situation regarding to the vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension, and
teaching method that used. That’s all for my reflection. Thank you.
Week 12
Technology for Teaching Writing
Last meeting, group
seven presented Jotterpad as technology for teaching writing. I think that the
application is not appropriate for teaching-learning in the classroom because
it doesn’t provide learning feature regarding writing matter for instance there
is no guideline for writing essay based on writing rules. It’s only application
that facilitates to write. The application is appropriate for people who like
writing story or novel, poetry, etc. it’s also practical for people who like
writing whenever they get ideas. That’s all for my reflection. Thank you.
