Concept of
Educational Technology in EFL Classroom

After read the references Mrs. Eva gave to me. I learnt about how technology begin and how technology take important roles in education.
History of technology began from 40.000 BC when
paintings/drawings had been found. Technology was growing from a painting to
magic tools called gadget (computers, smartphone, etc.) and keep growing as the
time flies. Nowadays, technology is becoming an efficient and effective tools
to help human in every aspect, include education. So, the meaning of
educational technology is a complex, integrated process in all aspect of human
learning.
Technology in learning has roles as tools , information
vehicles, context, a social medium, and intellectual partner.
Week 3
MALL and CALL

According to Levy (1997:1) CALL or Computer Assisted
Language Learning is the search for and study of applications of the computer
in language teaching and learning. In education computer has roles as tutor,
tool, and tutee. Some adventages of CALL are effective use of learning time,
being easy to get materials, guided and repetitive practive, etc.
MALL or Mobile Assisted Language Learning is a mode of
learning which takes place using content or interaction affordances facilitated
by mobile devices. The adventages of MALL are learner driven and centered,
relatively cheap technology, portable, new and fashionable, etc.
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application
for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of
educational courses or training programs. They help the instructor deliver
material to the students, administer tests and other assignments, track student
progress, and manage record-keeping.
From the definitions and adventages above, we know that
technology took an important part in making education easer, more effective,
and efficient. But we should aware, every good things has their own bad side,
so we must use the technology wisely.
Week 4
Impacts of Educational
Technologies

General impacts of technology are more engaged often retain more information, and provides meaningful learning experiences.
Using technology in learning process give many advantages. Many studies have prove it. The advantages are student have more engage, motivation, confidence, make collaboration, more fun, etc.
One of technology that can be used in learning process is Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). Some studies proved CALL will be effective for teaching-learning process, because through computer students can learn from visual medias supported of vocabulary acquisition reading comprehension and the use of online communication tools which improve writing skills.
On the other hand, people have to aware for other aspects. Learning with technology isn't only learn with CALL but also there are some aspects have to support, such as internet connection and teachers who have abilities t use the system.
Week 5
Technology for Teaching
Vocabulary

Class : 3B
Last meeting, group one presented one of the application to learn english especially vocabulary. The application is called Learning English With ACO.
With the application I can learn vocabulary through chat,
which consists of picture and works like riddles.
Overall the application is good and fun to learn vocabulary,
but I think it isn't suitable if we use that in class (teaching learning
process). Because the content of this application didn't match with Indonesian
culture, especially in junior high school or senior high school.
However if we want to learn english vocabularies, we can use
this application.

Presenters explained the application for teaching grammar called Marbel (Mari Belajar) Grammar by Educa Studio. The application available in Bahasa Indonesia, so it make students easier to understand. Unfortunately, the application doesn't provide any exercises.
Week 9
Technology for Teaching
Listening

Class : 3B
Last meeting was so memorable and fun for me, because I
tried to became a teacher (even only several minutes). Sadly we only prepared
in one hour (or more), so when presentation I didn't maximal yet I was happy to
see my friends still paid attention to us.
Learning English Teens by British Council is one of website
which provide subject for teaching and learning english. The website was so
helpful, and suitable for high school students. So that's why we decided to use
the website.
In the end of class, Ms. Eva said there's different between
teaching and testing listening, and what we did more like testing. I do agree
with her, we often asked students this
and that, but only gave lil' information. But, this is make me realized I
should learn more how to teach listening skill.

Week 11
Technology for Teaching Reading

Class : 3B
Last monday, Nargis and others presented technology for
teaching reading called Prep-GRE® test. The first thing crossed my mind was the
name of the application quite difficult to pronounce.
The application really helpful and easy to use. It has many
features like a lot of passages, duration time, questions, etc. Unfortunately,
the design of this application not interesting, and can't encourage students to
use it. Beside of that, topics and
vocabularies they used aren't suitable
for middle or high school students.
However the presenters were good and understandable.

Technology for Teaching Writing

Unfortunately, there is no tips, tricks, nor steps which we can use to write a text.
The presenters tried to demonstrate this application, and in my opinion they didn't teach us using this application, but more likely how to use the application. Thank you.
