Week 2
Concept of Educational Technology in EFL Classroom
Technology
is not only about the tool but also how we use the tool in order to please our
needs and wishes. In educational technology, our needs can be teaching and
learning process. From that definition I conclude that using technology in
education is a unity of all aspects or parts of education itself such as
teachers, students, and all supporting medias in teaching learning process.
From the
history of educational technology, I learnt that the development of technology
is still going nowadays. Therefore, we as the actors of educational technology
have to always develop our skills and awareness in using technology.
Week 3 CALL,
MALL, and LMS
CALL, MALL,
and LMS are kinds of technology that used in order to upgrade language learning
process to the next level. There are many advantages which can we get from
using CALL, MALL, and LMS. Basically, the advantage is to make language
learning process easier, more effective and efficient. Nevertheless, there are
some disadvantages too, such as expensive cost, only can be conducted in
internet covered area, skills needed, etc.
Before I
learnt the materials, I wondered what is CALL, MALL (I thought it is department
store), and LMS and why it is included in TELL subject. After I learnt it and
know what they are, I am surprised. Because, I don’t know whether you are aware
or not, but we have already used that kind of technologies in our classes. I
believe we will continue the using of CALL, MALL, and LMS and improve it. I
hope we will be able to be the 21st century teachers with excellent
technology skills.
Week 4
Impacts of Educational Technology
We are from
group 5. We will share about what we got from the last meeting. Based on
journals we had read, technology in general using by adults, children for daily
activities like social networking, communication, and games. The general impact
are more engaged often retain more information, and provides meaningful
learning experiences.
Using
technology in learning process gives many advantages. Many studies have already
proven it. The advantages are students more engage, students have more
motivation, more confidence, make collaboration, more fun, etc.
One of
technology that can be used in learning process is computer assisted language
learning (CALL). Some studies prove CALL will be effective for learning,
because, through computer, students can learn from visual media supported pf
vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension, and the use of online
communication tools which improve writing skills.
On the
other hand, people have to aware for the other aspects. Learning with
technology isn’t only learn with CALL but also there’re some aspects have to
support, such as internet connection and teachers who have abilities to use the
systems.
Week 5 Technology
for Teaching Vocabulary
Last
meeting, we watched a presentation from group 5 about teaching vocabulary using
application “Learning English with ACO”. I learned a lot of stuffs about that
application such as how to use it, the advantages, and also the disadvantages
of that application. Actually, the application is good and useful for learning
English (not only vocabulary which is the main topic of the last meeting) but,
I found some pictures which is not appropriate for educational activity. What
I’ve learned is we as a teacher should be smart teacher that aware of
everything about technology. We have to pick the best media for teaching and
learning activity.

Week 7
Grammar IG
Actually, we should submit our reflection on Instagram but we forgot to do that. Therefore, I will deliver my reflection now. The application that presented was Marbel (Mari Belajar). The good thing of this application is the material is explained using Bahasa Indonesia. The bad thing of this application is lack of examples and exercises. This application seems to be suitable for Senior High School students but it is only for self learner not for classroom activity.
Week 9 Technology
for Teaching Listening
I am a
member of the group which presented the technology for teaching listening. Our
group chose Learn English Teens by British Council. Why did we choose that
website? Because we think that the website is very appropriate for teaching
listening to junior and senior high school students (since they are teenagers)
supported by many useful features that can ease our teaching and learning
process such as exercises, transcription, and discussion.
Nevertheless,
according to what did Mrs. Eva talk about, what have we presented isn’t
teaching listening but testing listening. Well, actually, I still can’t find
the method for teaching listening. Since, in my own experiences in learning
listening, the teachers or the lecturers are still testing us not teaching us.
That’s why I don’t really like listening class.
However,
from our presentation, I learned a little bit how to demonstrate the teaching
and learning process, how to make audiences still focus on our explanation, and
how to deal with their questions. Thanks to Mrs. Eva for designing such an
amazing teaching and learning method in our class.

Week 11 Technology
for Teaching Reading
Here, I
will tell you about my reflection of last meeting that is technology for
teaching reading. Group 4 has delivered an application for teaching reading
that is Prep-GRE test. In my opinion, that application is not really
interesting. Why? Because, the design is very standard. The texts which
provided in the application are also not so interesting. I think it will be
hard for us to engage students to use this application due to the minuses that
I’ve presented before.
Week 12 Technology
for Teaching Writing
Here, I
would like to share my reflection about technology for teaching writing. The
application that presented by group 7 was Jotterpad. It is application for
android platform. Honestly, I don’t really understand their explanation. When I
tried the application, I just found that it’s only application for writing a
document. Group 7 said that the application has template for novel, poetry,
screenplay, etc., but I didn’t find those features.
